Parents As Teachers

As a parent, you are your child's first and most important teacher. Your home is your child's first school. Your child will learn more during the early years than at any other time in life. How your children grow and learn during these years - beginning at birth - will affect development and success in school.

THE PARENTS AS TEACHERS PROGRAM

This is a free program for all Missouri families with children birth to pre-kindergarten offered through your local school district.

  • Parent Visits - offered by PAT-certified parent educators, trained in child development, and home visiting, help you understand what to expect as your child grows and develops.

  • Group Meetings - PAT programs schedule times for parents to get together with other parents to hear topics of interest; such as toileting issues, sleep, sibling rivalry and more.   • Developmental Screenings - Parents As Teachers offers periodic screening of overall development, health, hearing, and vision to provide early detection of potential problems and prevent later difficulties in school.

  • Resource Network - PAT helps families access other needed community services that are beyond the scope of the PAT program.
