Jennifer Dickmann, Affton School District 2026-2027 Teacher of the Year.

Jennifer Dickmann, a sixth grade social studies teacher at Rogers Middle School, has been named Affton School District’s 2026-27 Teacher of the Year.

“Celebrating the achievements of our teachers is always rewarding, and recognizing the profound impact they have on our students and community is essential,” said Dr. Travis Bracht, superintendent. “Jennifer’s deep commitment to building an atmosphere of respect and trust sets her apart. From her leadership on our district’s competency-based learning initiatives to her unique ability to engage students through curiosity, she exemplifies the dedication we value in Affton. I am proud to honor her with this well-deserved recognition.”

Dickmann has spent 11 years in teaching, with the last four years dedicated to the students at Rogers Middle School. Currently pursuing a Specialist degree in K-12 Administration, she is recognized by her peers and leadership as a collaborative force within the district. She serves on numerous influential committees, including the Building Leadership Committee and the Instructional Task Force, all aimed at preparing students for life beyond the classroom.

Throughout her career in Affton, Dickmann has been known for her ability to build an atmosphere of respect and trust. “My teaching philosophy focuses on the whole student,” Dickmann shared. “When students feel you care about their outside lives, they are more willing to work and think more critically in the classroom”. This dedication is reflected in her being named Teacher of the Month every year she has been at Rogers, as well as being identified as a "trusted adult" by over 140 students this year.

One of her most impactful units is the "King Tut project," where she transforms her classroom into a crime scene to spark student curiosity. By adapting the lesson to include targeted learning opportunities and critical thinking, she allows students to investigate personal theories while connecting ancient social hierarchies to present-day society.

As a resident of the Affton community, Dickmann’s impact reaches far beyond the school day. She frequently attends district events with her own family, strengthening the bond between her professional and personal community. “Living in the community allows me to see students outside of the classroom,” she noted. “It allows my students to see a different side of me, which strengthens my relationships with them."
