Alex Huck Named Director Of Activities For Affton Schools

On Tues., February 7, the Affton School District Board of Education approved the hiring of Alex Huck as Director of Activities for the 2023-24 school year.

"We are thrilled to welcome Alex to the Affton team and are confident that his passion and experience will greatly enhance the athletic, fine arts, and extracurricular offerings for our students,” said Dr. Travis Bracht, superintendent. “He brings not only experience but also a vision for how our programs and opportunities can grow and evolve to meet the needs of even more students. We look forward to seeing the positive impact he will have on our school community."

Huck’s experience in school activities includes his role as athletic director and assistant principal at Battle High School in Columbia, Mo., since 2019. He has served as a head coach for boys’ soccer, coordinator for the freshmen transition and mentoring program, Link Crew, known as Cats Crew in Affton, and sponsor for Student Council. In addition to his athletic and activities experience, Huck served as a social studies teacher at Battle and Rock Bridge High Schools in Columbia, Mo., since 2013.

“I cannot wait to get started getting to know the students, staff, and community at Affton. I look forward to working with and for the coaches, directors, and sponsors at Affton to create positive experiences for all students,” said Huck. “Together, we will continue to leverage extracurricular activities to create meaningful life experiences in order to foster skills that will benefit our students for the rest of their lives.”

Huck earned a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in learning, teaching, and curriculum from the University of Missouri–Columbia, as well as a specialist degree in educational leadership from William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri.

Huck grew up in South St. Louis, and has spent the last decade in Columbia, Mo., after graduating from the University of Missouri. He and his wife, Emma, recently welcomed the addition of their daughter, Abigail, in January. Huck is an avid sports fan of all teams St. Louis, the Mizzou Tigers, and Kansas City Chiefs. When not busy with their daughter and three dogs, he and his wife enjoy traveling to all parts of the country.

Huck will begin serving as Director of Activities on July 1. He replaces Chris Kappler, who announced his retirement earlier this year.
